Is the digital yuan a threat to the dollar?

In China, a new state-issued cryptocurrency, the digital yuan, is being actively developed and is almost ready to be launched on the financial market. This is not just a digital currency for domestic payments, it is a full-fledged and multifunctional tool for controlling the movement of financial flows in the country’s economy. Despite the fact that China has been developing a digital national currency for quite a long time, the US has only now considered the threat to its own currency – the US dollar.

The fact is that the dollar is currently the leader among fiat currencies and is the most popular in the world. But in China, it is planned to create a cryptocurrency that will work independently of the traditional financial system, which will allow you to conquer the financial market and bypass the dollar, as a result of this, its rating and significance will suffer greatly. The use of the digital yuan as a means of payment is planned not only within the country, but also around the world, as a result of which it will become more profitable for ordinary users than using the dollar. There are also no less concerns about the possibility of circumventing the penalties that the United States has imposed on Russia and other countries.

At the moment, the digital yuan has already been tested as part of a pilot project in several localities of the People’s Republic of China, and in April of this year, it was decided to expand the functionality of this tool for making payments. The People’s Bank of China has already allowed you to pay for purchases using the digital yuan in the city of Shenzhen, and this can be considered an important step towards becoming a national cryptocurrency. In addition, it is planned to test the digital yuan in international transactions in the near future.

The cryptocurrency yuan is a cryptographic form of the national currency (a similar one is currently being developed in Russia), which can be used for a variety of purposes: for daily purchases, payment for services, making transfers to other persons, etc. No traditional cryptocurrency can compare with the national cryptocurrency in terms of reliability – the same bitcoin, the most famous and the first digital currency, which is very popular, is not recognized by any state and is very limited in making payments, not to mention less popular cryptocurrencies.

The Chinese government positions the digital yuan as a fast and convenient tool for making payments both domestically and internationally. And its disconnection from the global financial system seriously puzzles US governments, because independence from the dollar can greatly shake its position as the dominant fiat currency. Despite the fact that China’s digital means of payment does not have the main advantage of cryptocurrencies – anonymity, and is designed to control economic transactions at the global level, but has all the prerequisites to become in demand and popular. Now Washington is very concerned about the disappointing prospects that open up in connection with the issue of the digital yuan. Some experts believe that this will accelerate the overthrow of the dollar from the leading position of the world currency. And if such a cryptocurrency can be used to circumvent sanctions and other restrictions that are aimed at isolating the state from the point of view of finance, the digital yuan will soon become the optimal means for international transactions, regardless of the political and economic situation. And this is against the background of the fact that the yuan as a currency has already been included in the list of reserve currencies of the IMF, despite the fact that so far its share is very insignificant there – about 3%.
